AwesomeTouch started as an undergraduate engineering design project at the University of Kentucky. We developed some useful apps and novel hardware for large-format touch screens. When we showed a few people what we were working on and they liked it, enough to buy it. So we started a company, and we now focus on delivering intuitive software for giant touch screens in public places.
Our current interests:
Maps. We dabbled in cartography, and learned that maps are a really simple way to represent complex information, not just about physical locations. Currently, our AwesomeMap is used to aid visitors in discovering places to eat, drink, and entertain themselves in the downtown areas of cities. With so many cities pursuing downtown revitalization, we are looking forward to helping visitors from suburbia and beyond to rediscover the awesome things to do in their city’s center.
Education. Cool technology like interactive whiteboards cannot change education. But as educators begin to adopt the new paradigm of personalized education, a future where students can more deeply engage with their subject matter and each other, technology like multiuser interfaces can play a supporting role in this shift. AwesomeWhiteboard is a collaborative tool that seamlessly connects students and teachers to the sum of human knowledge now available on the web.
Retail shopping. Internet-based retailers have amassed a few great advantages for both their consumers and themselves: the ability to search and find the product a consumer seeks, and the ability for a retailer to target marketing to each consumer based on his or her personal preferences. The web, however misses out on the personal connections and the “right now” convenience of local stores. That’s why we’re developing a solution to bring the web shopping experience to your local retailer through giant touch screen directories and product configurators.
